Advertising in Saint Paul
The state capital and the anchor of the east metro. Saint Paul gets treated as the other half of one market, and for media planning purposes that is usually a mistake — the housing, the neighbourhood structure and the buying patterns are genuinely different.
The Saint Paul market
Saint Paul holds the State Capitol, the headquarters of Ecolab and Securian Financial, Regions Hospital, and a set of colleges — Macalester, St. Thomas, Hamline, St. Catherine — that shape whole neighbourhoods around them. 3M's campus sits immediately east in Maplewood and draws heavily from the city.
What makes Saint Paul different to buy
It is older and more settled than Minneapolis. Summit Hill and Summit Avenue carry one of the longest continuous stretches of Victorian residential architecture in the country; Highland Park, Como and Macalester-Groveland are stable, owner-occupied and long-tenured. Long tenure changes the media problem: these are households that renovate rather than move, which makes them a durable home improvement market but a slower one — the consideration window is measured in seasons, not weeks.
What we would put on the plan
Broadcast reaches Saint Paul perfectly well, but a Saint Paul business buying broadcast is paying for Minneapolis and everything west of it too. For east metro service areas we would concentrate on Connected TV across the Ramsey and Washington County zip codes, direct mail by carrier route into the neighbourhoods with the right housing age, and the community weeklies, which still hold real readership here in a way they no longer do everywhere.
Areas we cover in Saint Paul
Downtown and Lowertown, Summit Hill and Summit Avenue, Highland Park, Macalester-Groveland, Como and the Fairgrounds, Payne-Phalen, the East Side, West Seventh, Frogtown and Rice Street, Merriam Park.
Where to start
Tell us the zip codes you will actually drive to. In a metro this spread out, the service area changes the plan more than the budget does — and getting it wrong is how most of a good budget disappears. See how a plan gets built, or read why Connected TV has become the practical way to buy television against one city rather than sixteen counties.
Population is a US Census-based 2026 estimate via World Population Review. The Minnesota State Demographic Center's 2024 estimate differs slightly; both put Saint Paul in the same position among metro cities.
Let's build the plan.
Tell us the market, the budget and what a win looks like. We will come back with a plan that says exactly where it goes and what it should return.
